The inspiration for The Backrooms came from a creepypasta (an online horror tale) about an other world that one may "noclip" into, similar to slipping out of reality. The most recognizable level, "Level 0," is characterized as an unending Backrooms Game labyrinth of wet, yellow walls, buzzing lights, and worn carpet. This is faithfully shown in the game. You begin alone, lost in this strange, empty realm, and quickly find that you are not completely alone.
